Abstract: Spike Energy™ has long been regarded as a valuable tool used for detecting bearing and gear defects, cavitation, and rubbing. But, it has been neglected when considering its ability to assist with electrical fault diagnosis. Because it has the capability to demodulate the sidebands associated with high frequency carriers, faults associated with the rotor bar assembly in ac induction motors can be detected. A case study supporting this idea is presented at the end of the article. (read more)
